Art by Cath Cook

My name is Cath Cook; I am a mother, teacher and artist living in England.

From an early age art has always been a part of my life; it is my passion and a compelling need within me to create. I enjoy experimenting with a wide range of mediums but nothing, I feel, can beat the good old pencil and pad of paper.

At University I studied Fine Art and specialised in printmaking and this is where my love for intaglio printing began. It is not only the printed final product that I love but also the actual metal etched plates themselves, as I feel they are a piece of art in their own right.

I prefer to work mainly in black and white with realistic imagery. I am inspired by the human condition, focusing on conveying emotion and often concentrating on melancholic feelings. Through manipulating scale and by juxtaposing figures with unexpected objects within unusual surroundings, I hope to tell a story to the viewer. I am passionate about all art but I am particularly inspired by the Surrealists and my favourite artist is Edouard Manet.
